We stayed at the All-Star Movies Resort, which is one of the least expensive hotels on Disney property. (See earlier comments about being on a budget.) We had two connecting rooms, one for Steinar, the boys, and me, and one for my parents. Most of the time, the door between the two rooms was open, and we could walk between the rooms as we pleased. We had considered renting a cabin at the Fort Wilderness campground, since they sleep six and have a full kitchen. We decided against it, not only because a cabin cost more than the two rooms put together, but also because two people would have to sleep on a Murphy bed in the living room, and we would have only one bathroom for the six of us.
The rooms at this hotel are similar to a Motel 6 or similar; in fact in layout and size they were almost identical to the rooms at the Super 8 we'd stayed at the night before, with two double beds, a dresser with a TV on top, a small table and two chairs, and a small bathroom with the sink outside the door beside the open closet. Here the similarity ended. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the decor... well, no one would call it tasteful, but it was cheery. The kids loved it, and we adults found it charming in a whimsical sort of way.
Each building in the resort has decorations "inspired" by a Disney
movie, including large (up to three stories tall) icons that
camoflague the stairways and elevator courts. We were on the second
floor of the "Fantasia" building, overlooking a green area behind the
building. We could also see the courtyard between the two "Love Bug"
buildings. A big hit with the kids and VW lovers alike!
The courtyards were fun to explore. Didn't get any photos of the Toy Story area, but if you have any small Buzz Lightyear fans it's well worth a look!
We knew we would be arriving too late to burn a day of our tickets visiting the parks, but we had made reservations for a late supper at Chef Mickey's buffet at the Contemporary Resort.
